Enjoy a relaxing Aromatherapy Massage in Logan Utah!
Aromatherapy is one of our most requested massage services! We combine the power and benefits of essential oils with relaxing and invigorating full-body massage techniques. Your massage therapist will work with you to determine your specific preferences and needs and will customize the experience to you. During your treatment, essential oils may be diffused where they can be inhaled, added to your massage oil so they are absorbed through the skin, or both.
Essential oils are thought to enhance the massage experience by helping to decrease stress and anxiety. They promote feelings of calmness, relaxation, and positive wellbeing. Aromatherapy can also be used to ease the pain associated with things like fibromyalgia, chronic lower back pain, arthritis, muscle tension, peripheral neuropathy, and more.
It is also believed that aromatherapy and massage can help with issues related to insomnia as well and promote deeper and more restful sleep cycles.
The Aromatherapy Massage Experience
During your aromatherapy massage, naturally fragrant therapeutic grade essential oils are used to activate and release your body’s own healing mechanisms. Many believe these oils can affect your mood, boost your immune system, detoxify your body, and more. They are often referred to as Mother Nature’s medicine cabinet.
Choosing your scent
At the beginning of your session, you massage therapist will assess what your needs and goals are for the session. They will then introduce various oils that will help achieve those goals. You may be invited to smell the different oils and choose which ones you like the best and best matches how you want to feel at the end of your session.
For relaxation, you may want to choose things like lavender, clary sage, frankincense, orange, bergamot, holy basil, or chamomile.
If soothing anxiety is your goal, options such as valerian, jasmine, rose, ylang-ylang, lemon balm, or marjoram may be good choices.
Invigorating and refreshing oils that will stimulate your senses and restore your energy include all the citrus fruits such as lemon, orange, grapefruit, bergamot, and lime. Combining them with spicer scents such as black pepper, cardamom, ginger, peppermint or wintergreen can increase the effect.
Pain and muscle tension often respond well to peppermint, marjoram, eucalyptus, chamomile, rosemary, yarrow, and sandalwood
The Massage Experience
Once your oils have been chosen, you’ll begin your massage face down. Some of our therapists like to start with the feet, others with the neck or head to allow you to relax more deeply. They will then apply some of the oils you’ve chosen along with a carrier or massage oil both to allow the massage therapist’s hands to glide smoothly over your skin and to dilute the essential oils to their proper strength so they don’t burn or damage your skin.
They will then use a variety of massage techniques, including the long, smooth strokes most closely associated with a Swedish massage. Or, if needed and desired, they may use some deep tissue massage techniques to target specific areas and release stubborn muscle knots or whole muscle groups. They may also use other techniques such as hand or foot reflexology, acupressure, trigger point therapy, and guided meditations to help achieve the positive results you are looking for at the end of your session.
Possible Side Effects
Though aromatherapy is generally a very safe and positive experience with very few precautions or side effects, the two things you will want to watch for include making sure you are not allergic to the oils and that they aren’t applied directly to your skin without being properly diluted. They should not burn, discolor, or itch. Nor should you have a negative reaction when you smell them. If any of these things happen, please let your massage therapist know immediately. You have most likely discovered a previously unknown allergy or they have been used in too strong of a concentration for your body to handle.
Otherwise, massage therapy, aromatherapy, and the combination of both are wonderful holistic treatments that don’t involve medication, chemicals, or long-term side effects and can be enjoyed as frequently as you wish.
